Image Pyramid

An image pyramid can be constructed by successively aggregating data to lower resolutions. Each level contains less visual and statistical information than the one below it, and is always smaller in terms of data volume (De Cola and Montagne, 1993).

Here, for example, we aggregate by a linear factor of two, creating levels decreasing in size by a factor of 1/4.
